jacquie hired a contractor to install a tile floor in her laundry room which measures 10.5 feet by 8 feet. the contractor informed her that the tiles cost $4.75 a square foot, he would charge $22 per hour, and it would take him 7.5 hours to complete the job. when the job was done, jacquie received a bill in the amount of $659.12 from the contractor which included an 8% sales tax. is the amount on the bill correct?

There are 3 types of cost for this problem: the cost for the area covered by the tiles, cost for hourly labor and the sales tax.

Cost of Area = (10.5 ft)(8 ft)($4.75) = $399
Cost of Hourly Labor = ($22/h)(7.5 h) = $165
Sum = $399 + $165 = $564
Cost of tax = $564(0.08) = $45.12

Total Cost = $564 + $45.12 = $609.12

So, the amount of the bill is incorrect.
