I believe the correct answer is 15, because 15/8 x 15/1= 225/8 and when you simplify that you get 28 with 1/8 left over.

Answer: Bookshelf can hold 15 books.

Explanation:

Given : The length of the book shelf =
28(1)/(8) inches

In improper fraction ,
28(1)/(8)=(8(28)+1)/(8)=(225)/(8)

i.e. Length of the book shelf =
(225)/(8) inches

Similarly, Thickness of a book =
1(7)/(8)=(8(1)+7)/(8)=(15)/(8) inches

Now, the number of books the shelf can hold = Length of the bookshelf ÷Thickness of a book

=(225)/(8)/(15)/(8)\\\\=(225)/(8)*(8)/(15) \\\\=(225)/(15)=15

Hence, the bookshelf can hold 15 books.
