-8x + 3 - 2x = -1

Combine -8x and 2x

Don't forget that minus sign follows the 2 making it a negative.

-8x + -2x

Leaving you with...

-10x

Add the rest of the equation

-10x + 3 = -1

Now subtract 3 from -1

-10x + 3 = -1
-3 -3

Leaves you with

-10x = -4

Divide by -10x

-10x = -4
___ ___
-10 -10

This gets rid of your x and leaves you with -0.4

X= -0.4
