The correct answer is
Protestants make up the majority.

This is just barely however since out of all the population, 32% of people declare themselves as protestants while there are 29% of Catholics. This might change and has changed historically due to the fact that California was a Mexican colony and still has many Mexican immigrants who are predominantly catholic.
