Let Y be the unknown number
2 times the number is 2Y
3 times the number is 3Y
The sum of two and three times the number is 14. That is represented as;
2Y+3Y=14
5Y=14
Divide both sides by 5
Y=14/5
Y=2.8
The number is 2.8
