the answer is D. The Union won despite heavy causalities.
During the battle of Fredericksburg, technically the confederates army were successful in conquering the territory.
But Confederates have to sacrifice around 12,000 casualties. So despite confederates' victory in fredericksburg, this battle will led to their downfall in American civil war.
