How did many African American women earn a living during the late 1800s?

Before the abolition and the Civil War, most African American women were slaves. When the war ended in the mid 1800's, most women were involved in domestic or agricultural work. They started earning real money after the Emancipation Proclamation, and employed as seamstress, maids, cooks and farmers.
