The first answer. (3 x 3) + (3 x 4)

(3 x 3) + (3 x 6)
Because length of fig, 1 (the smaller one) is 3, which needs to be multiplied by 3 (the width)
Then the 6 needs to be multiplied by the width of three to find the area
