What is the purpose of a rhetorical question?

For the writer or speaker to persuade

For the reader to reflect

Both A and B are possible purposes.

Both. If you know the meaning of rhetorical question, you would know that its a question that you dont answer but you think about.

You persuade the reader because you are asking them questions to do with anything, that are non- answerable.

The reader refelcts because if you ask a question, that you dont write or say for your answer....That is a rhetorical question/answer.
