Given:
____________________________________________

(x)/(3) - 5 = -7 ;

Add "5" to EACH SIDE of the equation:

(x)/(3) - 5 + 5 = -7 + 5 ;

to get:

(x)/(3) = -2 ;

x = (-2 * 3) ;
