5x-4(2x+11)=13

1)distribute the -4 to the numbers within the parenthesis.

5x-8x-44=13

2) next step you combine light terms.
''5x-8x=-3x''
so now you have -3x-44=13
3) add 44 on both sides
and you're left with -3x=57
4) divide both sides by -3 in order to solve for x; x divided by any number is always x, and 57divided by -3 is -19
5) so you're left with [n=-19] as your final answer

First you have to distribute the 2x+11.
So multiply -4x2x and -4x11.
5x-8x-44=13
Add all your like terms so 5x+-8x.
-3x-44=13. Now add 44 to both sides.
-3x= 57. Now divide both sides by -3 to get the x by itself.
x=-19
