Problem

if each side of a square patio is increased by 4ft, the area of the patio would be 190 square feet. solve the equation (s+4)^2= 196 for s to find the length of a side of the patio

Solution

for this case we can do the following:

(s+4)^2 = 196

We can take square root on both sides and we got:

s+4= 14

s= 14-4

s= 10

And the solution for s would be:

s= 10
