A shopkeeper marks his goods at 40% above cost (the price he pays for the goods) and then offers a 25% discount. If a jacket costs the shopkeeper $200, at what price is it sold?

First find 40% of how much he paid: 200·0.4=80
Add the mark up and the original cost: 200+80=280
Now we need to find the discount on the new price so multiply 25% by the new price: 280·0.25=70
Now the sale price is the new cost minus the discount: 280-70=210
The jacket sold for $210 :))

so he paid 200...
and then he marked it up 40%....200* 1.4 = 280
and then he offered a 25% discount...meaning u pay 75%..
0.75(280) = 210 <== the price it is sold at
