We have that an inverse variation can be represented by the following equation:

\begin{gathered} k=xy \\ or \\ y=(k)/(x) \end{gathered}

In this case we have the ordered pair (8,6), then, we have the following constant of variation:

\begin{gathered} (x,y)=(8,6) \\ \Rightarrow k=(8)(6)=48 \\ k=48 \end{gathered}

therefore, the constant of variation is k = 48
