Harriet Beecher Stowe was an abolitionist, best known for her work to end slavery. She wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin as well as other pieces of literature, and depicted what the life was like for an African American who was enslaved in the 1800s. She is remembered as someone who fought for the rights of African American slaves. She was touted by President Abraham Lincoln as the woman who wrote the book that started the Civil War.
