Add 6.5 to 62 then subtract 8.7 to get 59.8

Answer:
59.8^(\circ) F

Explanation:

Given : Joaquin recorded a temperature of 62°F this morning for science class.

The temperature increased
6(1)/(2)^(\circ)F in the afternoon before decreasing 8.7°F in the evening.

We can write
6(1)/(2) as
6+(1)/(2)=6+0.5=6.5 .

Now According to the question , the temperature at evening will be :-

62^(\circ)F+6(1)/(2)^(\circ)F-8.7^(\circ)F\\\\=62^(\circ)F+6.5^(\circ)F-8.7^(\circ)F\\\\=(62+6.5-8.7)^(\circ)\ F=59.8^(\circ)\ F

Hence, the evening temperature was
59.8^(\circ) F .
