What happened during the Boston Tea Party? How did this event help lead to the Revolutionary War?

The Boston Tea Party was the first part of the violent part of the American rebellion. This event sent a clear sign to Britain that America was not happy with the way the governed the country. Therefore, pushing both sides closer to war.

It was a political protest between the sons of Liberty, and in the defiance of the Tea Act they destroyed the shipment of tea that was sent by the East India Company by throwing it into the Boston Harbor to make a protest. The British Government reacted harshly and the episode escalated into the American Revolution.
