The United States suffered many costly defeats at the hands of British, Canadian and Native American troops over the course of the War of 1812, including the capture and burning of the nation's capital, Washington, D.C., in August 1814.

The way the Americans viewed themselves after the war of 1812:

The war of 1812 had affected the Americans adversely. The war had taken place due to differences in trade and military of Great Britain and the US. The war made the citizens realize their institutions had given them moral support and the Americans thrived towards earning respect for their nation.

They described themselves as the means of pride for the country through unions, tranquillity and greatness. They focused on leading their nation towards growth. They worked to be acknowledged as moral, political and improved.
