Deon rented a truck for one day. There was a base fee of $15.99, and there was an additional charge of 77 cents for each mile driven. Deon had to pay $192.32 when he returned the truck. For how many miles did he drive the truck?

Let:

T = total cost = $192.32

b = Base fee = $15.99

a = charge for each mile driven = 77cents = $0.77

x = Number of miles driven

So:

\begin{gathered} T=b+ax \\ 192.32=15.99+0.77x \\ solve_{\text{ }}for_{\text{ }}x \\ 0.77x=192.32-15.99 \\ 0.77x=176.33 \\ x=(176.33)/(0.77) \\ x=229mi \end{gathered}
