Plasmas are the most common state of matter in the universe.
A plasma is a gas that has been energized to the point that some of the electrons break free from, but travel with, their nucleus.

I think that must be a true statement, because the majority of the mass of every main-sequence star is in the plasma state, and nothing else in the universe amounts to a hill of beans.
