x + 2y = 8
x = -2y + 8....so we sub -2y + 8 for x in the other equation
2x + y = 7
2(-2y + 8) + y = 7
-4y + 16 + y = 7
-3y = 7 - 16
-3y = - 9
y = -9/-3
y = 3
x = -2y + 8
x = -2(3) + 8
x = -6 + 8
x = 2
solution is (2,3)
