Britain also needed money to pay for its war debts. The King and Parliament believed they had the right to tax the colonies. They decided to require several kinds of taxes from the colonists to help pay for the French and Indian War.

English and British  monarchs continued to prominently cal themselves kinds of France, and the French flour-de-lys were included in the real arms. This continued until 1801, by time France had no monarch, having become a republic. The Jacobite claimants, however, did not explicitly relinquish the claim.
