Batson vs. Kentucky (1986). This Supreme court decision determined that race alone could not be used to remove a juror from a jury. Since taxpayers were separated by race in the tax books, a prosecutor or defense attorney could remove all members of one race for a jury, which would result in a biased jury for or against the accused.
