The way I look at it is,
$1.50 multiplied by 1.5 equals $2.25.
I checked this by doing the following,
$1.50 divided by 2 equals $0.75, $0.75 multiplied by 3 is $2.25, I also did,
$2.25 minus $1.50 equals $0.75
