If Kim and her sisters age equal 36 an equation would be k+s=36

k = kims age, s = her sisters age

k = 2s
k + s = 36

2s + s = 36 <== ur equation
3s = 36
s = 36/3
s = 12 <== the sister is 12

k = 2s
k = 2(12)
k = 24 <== Kim is 24
