Ocean acidification refers to the ongoing decrease in the pH level of the earth oceans which is caused by the uptake of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Ocean acidification seems to be speeding up because of the increased human activities which increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
An example of human activities that speed up the ocean acidification process is the burning of fossils fuels, which continuously release more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
