the positively charged neutrons cancel out the negatively charged electrons. the positively charged protons cancel out the negatively charged electrons. hope that helped:)

An atom has no electrical charge simply because the number of protons is equal to the number of electrons. However, if the atom gains an extra electron, it becomes negatively charged. If it loses and electron, then the atom becomes positively charged
