The Maya lived in individual city-states, while the Aztec were unified under one leader. The Maya elected their leader, while the Aztec leader was a tyrant. The Aztecs developed a more democratic system of government, while the Maya leader ruled by birthright. Both civilizations lived in city-states, but the Aztec empire was larger.

Answer:

The Aztec and the Mayan civilization were the part of the Mesoamerican civilizations situated in the central and southern part of Mexico.

Aztec society was divided between nobles and commoners, led by an Emperor. Alliance did not claim supreme authority over its tributary provinces in the Aztec empire.

The Mayas lived in an independent city, led by a king and his family. Maya cities were controlled by a king household, the elder son inherited the position of king.

The common between the empire was that they both practiced sacrifice and had slaves.
