The equation for the midpoint of a line segment is
( (x_1 + x_2)/(2), (y_1 + y_2)/(2)). Thus, the midpoint of this segment is
((4 + (-6))/(2), (-5 + 3)/(2)) = \boxed{(-1, -1)}.
