To what extent does pleurozium affect nitrogen availability in northern forests of different successional ages

Pleurozium is a loose moss that grows over plant foliage on the forest floor. It has a great impact on older forests where it adds more nitrogen to the soil through nitrogen fixation process deposited from the atmosphere; after forest fires, their impact isn't seen immediately, but over time it contributes much more nitrogen.
