Why was the invasion of the Byzantine empire by the Seljuk Turks in the 1050s significant

One of the primary reasons why the attack of the Byzantine Empire by the Turks was significant that when the Turks initially attacked the Byzantine Realm, the Holy Lands which were also in the empire were overrun. This lead to Alexius I asking the Pope for Christian knights to help him in the Crusades which then lead to Pope Urban II to allow the Crusades to happen.
