3x - 9x = -21 + 4
-6x = -17
x = -17/-6
x = 17/6

3x - 4 = 9x - 21

Subtract 9x from both sides.

3x - 9x - 4 = -21

Add 4 to both sides.

3x - 9x = -21 + 4

Simplify.

-6x = -17

Divide both sides by -6.

x = 17/6 AND 2 5/6
