Which theme does this passage from Grendel best illustrate?[Beowulf] talked on. I found myself not listening, merely looking at his mouth, which moved—or so it seemed to me—independent of the words, as if the body of the stranger were a ruse, a disguise for something infinitely more terrible.

A. A monster lies within every person.

 B. People often speak lies and half-truths.

C. Grendel is fascinated by Beowulf.

D.  Life is truly cold and meaningless.

The correct answer is the letter A. A monster lies within every person.

He was so impacted that he was not able to listen to his words. He also mentions the word ruse, which means "an action made to deceive someone, a trick". Finally, we can infer it is something bad as a monster because he mentions the word terrible.
