China’s Yangtze River was once home to an ancient civilization, just as the Nile, The Tigris-Euphrates and the Indus rivers were. A series of walled towns and cities dating from around 3000 BC have been discovered. The newly discovered Yangtze civilisation lasted for 500 years and collapsed as a result of climatic and environmental problems and warfare.

Ancient Egypt was one of the oldest and long-lasting civilizations in world history. This early civilization is usually held to have begun around 3000 BC and it formed down the lush fields of the Nile River.

Mesopotamia is the valley between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers which follow parallel courses through the heart of Middle East. It was known as the land “between the rivers” in Greek. Mesopotamia began as urban societies in southern Iraq in 5000 BC and ended in the 6th century BC.

The Indus Valley Civilization was located on the fertile flood plain of the Indus River, in what is Pakistan and northwest India today. This civilization lasted from 3300 BC to 1300 BC.
