At one farmer’s market, bananas cost $0.80 per pound. At another farmer’s market, bananas are sold in 5-pound bags for $4.50 per bag. Which explains how to find the better buy?

So first you are going to divide 4.50 by 5 to get

4.50 ÷ 5 = 90¢

So we know that it costs 90¢ per pound

Then compare the prices

80¢ and 90¢

The 80¢ is cheaper than 90¢ by 10¢. So the 80¢ bag would be the better bag to buy.

divide 4.50 by 5 pounds to get price per pound

4.50/5 = 0.90

so it costs 90 cents per pound

the 80 cent per pound market is a better price
