You need to carpet a new office room. The new room is 12 feet by 15 feet 6 inches. A supplier delivered 20 square yards of carpet tiles.

Do you have enough tiles to do the job? How much more or less do you need?

Area of the room = 12 * 15.5 = 186 square feet

This equals 186 / 9 = 20 2/3 square yards

So you have not got enough capet tiles to do the job.

You need another 1 carpet tile to finiush the job.

Answer:

1 square yards more tiles are needed to complete the job.

Explanation:

We have been given that the new new room is 12 feet by 15 feet 6 inches. A supplier delivered 20 square yards of carpet tiles.

First of all, we will convert our given dimension into feet.

1 feet = 12 inches

\text{6 inches}=(6)/(12)\text{ feet}=0.5\text{ feet}

Now, we will find the carpet area by multiplying the given dimensions.

\text{Area of floor}=\text{ 12 feet}* \text{ 15.5 feet}

\text{Area of floor}=186\text{ feet}^2

Now, we will convert our area into square yards by multiplying our answer by 0.11111.

\text{Area of floor}=186\text{ feet}^2*0.11111\frac{\text{ yards}^2}{\text{ feet}^2}

\text{Area of floor}=186* 0.11111\text{ yards}^2

\text{Area of floor}=20.66646\text{ yards}^2

Therefore, we don't have enough tiles to do the job and we need 1 square yards of more tiles to do the job.
