This can be solved using the properties of equality:

`8/9=(30+a)/45`
Cross Multiply.

`8*45=9*(30+a)`
Simplify.

`360=9a+270`
Add -270 to both sides.

`(360)+(-270)=(9a+270)+(-270)`
Simplify.

`90=9a`
Divide both sides by 9.

`(90)/9=(9a)/9`
Simplify.

`10=a`

`a=10`
