In 1609 the Dutch East India Company sent Henry Hudson to investigate the region where New York City is now. There shaped a settlement named New Holland and its capital was New Amsterdam. The Puritan religion accompanied the Quakers and Amish, who settled along the Delaware Waterway; additionally the Baptists and Mennonites originated from Eastern Europe. The new Pennsylvania town developed quickly with the German peasants of the Rin River and with the Irish-Scots who later arrived. Subsequently, religion had the impact of the Puritans, who carried with them the work values, simple life, a long way from the transgression of old Europe, and with their traditions, old stories, legends and even music, as polyphonic religious music.
