Divide both sides by 3:

|4x + 6| = 8

Now remove the absolute value:

4x + 6 = 8
or
4x + 6 = -8

Subtract both sides by 6:
4x = 2
or
4x = -14

Divide both sides by 4:
x = 1/2
or
x = -7/2

Final answer: x = 1/2 or x = -7/2
