Dalton believed that atom is indivisible. Atom is the smallest building block of a element.

But Thompson with his plum and pudding model proved that atom is indeed divisible into other subatomic particles. He discovered that negatively charged electrons are embedded as plums in a spherical cloud of positive charge which is akin to a pudding.
