Answer: Option (c) is the correct answer.

Step-by-step explanation:

When a solution has pH less than 7 then it is known as an acidic solution. In an acidic solution there are more number of hydrogen ions than hydroxide ions.

Mathematically, pH = -[log]\frac{1}{[H^{+}}]}[/tex]

where
[H^(+)] = concentration of hydrogen ions

Whereas when a solution has pH more than 7 then it is known as a basic solution. In a basic solution there are more number of hydroxide ions than hydrogen ions.

Hence, we can conclude that the presence of an acid in a water solution affect the pH of the solution as it raises the pH.
