Credit cards give you rewards for using it. If you're responsible and pay when your money is due, you get rewards for using it with no cons. If you have a debit card, you can't not pay up so you don't have to give a loan (you do have to take out a loan with credit cards and pay huge interest) but you get no rewards (e.g. 3% cash back on gas)
