Explain the meaning of a republican system of government and why it is successful.

A republican government is similar to a democracy, where the people have the power, either through direct influence or through representatives(or both). The success comes from the freedom people have, combined with the knowledge of the specially chosen representatives can assist with creating a thriving country/society.

Republicanism is a political movement according to which the state form of a nation must be a republic: a state whose head of state is not designated by succession (as in a monarchy), but is elected democratically by citizenship. Broadly defined, republicanism refers to a political system that guarantees freedom by establishing a constitutional state that cannot be arbitrarily ignored by the executive. Within a republic, the emphasis is on involving all citizens in power and the fight against corruption. The supporters are called republicans.
