What is the difference between a solution and a heterogeneous mixture? give an example of each?

Heterogeneous Mixtures aren't uniform and are separated in the mixture. They are usually more easily able to be separated. An example is milk and cereal. The cereal isn't uniform because the milk and cereal still are separated and have their own identities. (You can easily just remove cereal from milk using a strainer)

Solutions or Homogeneous Mixtures are uniform in composition and the multiple elements have become one solution. These mixtures are hard to separate into their components. An example is tap water because it contains water as well as various minerals that can only be separated by performing chemical reactions.

A solute dissolve in solvent is said to be a solution. It is homogeneous mixture that is the components of mixture are uniformly distributed throughout the mixture. The substance which is dissolved is solute whereas the substance in which the solute is dissolved is solvent. The solution can exist in any phase.

For example: Mixture of salt (solute) and water (solvent).

A mixture in which the components of mixture are not uniformly distributed throughout the mixture is known as heterogeneous mixture. The different materials of the mixture can be distinguished easily.

For example: Mixture of sand and water.
