Given the question:

When Yoshi graphed the lines y = 2x + 3 and y = 2x − 2, she got the graph shown at right.

One of the lines at right matches the equation y = 2x + 3, and the other matches y = 2x − 2. Which line matches which equation?

i) y = 2x – 2

when x = 0, y = 2(0) - 2 = -2; when y = 0, 2x = 2 and x = 1.

Therefore, the line matching the equation y = 2x - 2 is the line passing through the points (0, -2) and (1, 0).

ii) y = 2x + 3

when x = 0, y = 2(0) + 3 = 3; when y = 0, 2x = -3 and x = -3/2.

Therefore, the line matching the equation y = 2x + 3 is the line passing through the points (-3/2, 0) and (0, 3).
