-12i×3i=-12×3×i×i
12×3=36 i×i=i²
So in the case of basic algebra, it's 36i²
If i is √-1 then i² is √-1×√-1 which is -1
36×-1=-36

-36i^2 because -12 X 3= -36 and i X i = i^2
