A car can travel 476 miles on 14 gallons of gas. Write an equation relating the distance d to the number of gallons g. How many gallons of gas does this car need to travel 578 miles.

1 gallon here would mean 34 miles, so I believe the equation would just be g=34d, and you would need 17 gallons to travel 579 miles

divide 476 by 14 to get miles per gallon

476/14 = 34, the car can drive 34 miles per gallon of gas

so the equation would be d = 34g ( distance = 34* gallons of gas)

to travel 578 miles

replace 578 for d and calculate for g

578 =34g

g = 578/34 = 17 gallons of gas is needed
