The set of ordered pairs (–1, 8), (0, 3), (1, –2), and (2, –7) represent a function. What is the range of the function?

A.) {x: x = –1, 0, 1, 2}
B.) {y: y = –7, –2, 3, 8}
C.) {x: x = –7, –2, –1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 8}

The range is the set of outputs or y values of a relation or function. The given set of points have y coordinates of 8, 3, -2, -7 in the order of which the points are presented.

So the range is the set {8, 3, -2, -7} which can be sorted to {-7, -2, 3, 8}

To make things clear that y is attached to the range, we could write {y: y = -7, -2, 3, 8} as you see in choice B

This is why choice B is the answer.
