Kim is drawing a map of the different schools in her school district. She knows that her middle school is 10.6 miles away from the middle school that her best friend attends. If every 2 inches on the map represents 5 miles, how far apart will the two schools be on the map, to the nearest tenth of an inch?

every 2 inches is 5 miles right? we start off with 10 divided by 2, which gives us 2 inches, thats one step done! now we need to do .6 divided by two, .5 is 1 and .1 is .2. our answer should be 3.2 inches.

Answer:

4.24 inch

Explanation:

We are given that:

Kim is drawing a map of the different schools in her school district.

She knows that her middle school is 10.6 miles away from the middle school that her best friend attends.

If every 2 inches on the map represents 5 miles.

We are asked that how far apart will the two schools be on the map.

5 miles=2 inch

1 mile=2/5 inch

10.6 miles=
(2* 10.6)/(5)\\ \\=(2* 106)/(5* 10)\\\\

= 4.24 inch

Hence, On the graph the two schools are 4.24 inches apart
