To answer this question, you need to understand what you are looking for, which is the number of employees before downsizing. Let's call that x. Also you need to understand that if you are downsizing by 25%, then there are 75% of the original number of employees left.



Therefore you can set up the problem as: 75% of x = 105. Solve: 0.75x =105 = 140
